Buenos Aires to Revoke Licenses of Criminals

The Government of the City of Buenos Aires will revoke the driver's licenses of those who commit crimes with motorcycles or cars to reinforce its comprehensive security plan. This was announced on Wednesday in a document accessed by the Argentine News Agency. The system will work through an exchange of information between two areas of the city government: the Secretariat of Security will notify the office responsible for issuing driver's licenses of individuals who have been detained for committing crimes with cars or motorcycles. Subsequently, the General Directorate of Driver Licensing will analyze this information and apply the current regulations, which could lead to the withdrawal of driver's licenses. «Anyone who commits a crime with a motorcycle or car in the city will lose their license,» stated Head of Government of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri. «In the city, order is not negotiable,» he added. So far this year, 1,021 people have been arrested in Buenos Aires for committing crimes using motorcycles and cars, of which 523 are from the Province of Buenos Aires and 446 reside in the City itself. Of these 446 people, 125 had driver's licenses issued by the City. The information on these 125 individuals and on all those detained in the future will be sent to the General Directorate of Driver Licensing for the review of their licenses and their revocation. «Security work is multidisciplinary and requires the interaction and cooperation of all State areas. Therefore, this decision is aimed at taking away tools from those who seek a way of life in crime,» stated the Secretary of Security of the City, Maximiliano Piñeiro. In addition, Piñeiro invited the Province of Buenos Aires and its municipalities to support this measure that seeks to combat crime and hinder the actions of criminals.
